Calling on General Garrett

I have written a number of blog post about what we, as fans, expect from the players on this Cowboys team. Now let’s put some responsibility at the feet of Jason Garrett. In order for the Dallas Cowboys to make the jump to being a championship team they will need an A+ effort from their General. Jason Garrett is coming off an amazing season with the Dallas Cowboys  which lead to him receiving the coach of the year award. He was able to guide his team to a 13-3 record, a division title, and the best record in the NFC. They eventually lost to the Packers in the divisional round, but the Cowboys still had a good season. I still don’t think we have seen the best of Garrett’s coaching abilities. Since the three straight seasons going 8-8 from 2011-2013, Garrett has been an above average coach. It should be mentioned that in those three season the Cowboys playoff chances can down to the last game of the season. Some people blame Romo for those loses and some blame

Step up or Maintain

The Dallas Cowboys have many talented players. Zack Martin, Tyron Smith, and Travis Frederick have all cemented themselves as three of the top players at their positions. Other players on the Cowboys roster have shown the ability to perform at a high level but either need to take the next step or maintain that high level in order for the Cowboys to get to the Super bowl. This list will be of the ten players that I feel have to take the next step or contribute the same performances from last season. 10. Demarcus Lawrence If you’ve read any of my blogs about the Cowboys before than you know I expect a lot from Lawrence. Don’t get me wrong, I know his isn't Reggie White, but I do expect him to be better than Jason Hatcher. I mention Hatcher because he was the Cowboys last double-digit sack artist. Hatcher was good but not great and Lawrence can be better. Lawrence has to step up and be the pass rusher we expect him to be Lawrence battled injuries (back) and a su

Dak's progression!!!

Like most of you, I think Dak Prescott has to take the next step in order for the Cowboys to progress to the next level. Dak showed everybody that he was the real deal in the playoff game against the Packers. He went toe to toe with the best QB in the league and brought the Cowboys back from a deep hole. Prescott showed the poise that he demonstrated all season. Dez was given the opportunity to earn Dak's trust, and had an amazing game. Should we expect Dallas to depend on Dak in order to chase the Chip? Let's not forget about Zeke Elliot. It's a QB driven league but that doesn't mean that the QB has to throw 40 times a game. There will be games where Dak has to throw 40 times but that should be rare. The Cowboys have created a winning formula with that great offensive line and a spectacular run game. They can definitely survive with marginal improvement from the QB. Although I fully expect Dak to be the QB they need, his progression may not show on th

Marinelli..... Keep being special!

It was a time not so long ago when Jason Hatcher had a pro bowl season with 11 sacks. Hatcher was probably the last dominate pass rusher for the Dallas Cowboys. Since joining the team in 2013 Rob Marinelli has been the leader of the “JAG” (Just A Guy) committee, when it comes to pass rushers. He’s had some solid linemen, but none has been special. That probably will not change much this upcoming season.                 Drafting Taco Charlton was taking a position of need. Was he the best player available at his position? Only time will tell. Can he step in week one and be the pass rusher the Cowboys hope he can be? We will just have to wait in see. There are many questions surrounding Charlton, and he play was have to answer them. The consensus is that Charlton is a very talented but inconsistent player. He has shown flashes of being special at the collegiate level. The problem with that is if you’re inconsistent in college, you may struggle in the pros. The player

Why I love the Cowboys

It was 1989 and the Dallas Cowboys were coming off a 3-13 record in 88. Jerry Jones has just bought the team and his first move was to fire head coaching legend Tom Landry. A move that didn't go over well with the fans. Jones knew it would take drastic changes to get the Cowboys back to their winning ways.      Jones choice at head coach was former college teammate Jimmy Johnson. Johnson had been a successful college coach and was an excellent talent evaluator.      Fast forward to 1995, three super bowls later, to the time that I was fascinated by the very entertaining Cowboys. I was 8 years old when the high stepping Dieon Sanders, the high flying tough catch making Michael Irvin, and the ever consistent Emmit Smith captured my fandom. It was hard not to be come a fan.      22 years later I'm still waiting for the Cowboys to get back to the glory years. I love them more now than I did in 95.
