The Time is now Defense!

The time is now for the Dallas Cowboys! I’m not going to diminish how important Zeke Elliot is to the success of this Cowboys team. The reality is that he is probably going to serve this six game suspension at some point. Even if he pushes it back a week or two, the NFL is going to win. Personally, I would like to see him serve the suspension now because the team appears to be gelling together. They are more equipped now after a two game win streak, to make a run at Philly for the division lead. What has to happen for the Cowboys to keep the season trending upward?
The Dallas Cowboys are in a perfect position after 8 weeks. Their record sits at 4-3 and they didn’t look good the first five games of the season. Since the week six bye week the Cowboys have been playing amazing. Say what you want about the quality of opponent, there aren’t many great teams in the league anyways.
The Defense has been boning up since giving up two straight 30-point games to the Rams and the Packer. This is the most important point to consider because the play of this defense will become a key contributor to the Cowboys success.
Since the return of David Irving in week 5 against the Packers, the Cowboys have 13 total sacks as a team. Irving himself has five sacks over that three game span. Demarcus Lawrence is leading the league in sacks (10.5). This could be the first time since Demarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer that the Cowboys have two double-digit sack players. Crawford has been amazing in a rotational basis and Charlton is starting to get a little penetration when he sees the field. I’m still waiting on Collins to be the dominate force we saw last season. They did change Collin’s position for the three-technique to the one-technique after Paea retired. The three-tech rushes the passer more than the one-tech but Collins is still a presence inside. The Cowboys still have to work on the defensive line rotation, but Irving and Lawrence are good and they will hold down the pass rush.
Orlando Scandrick played his best game of the season this week against the Redskins. Scandrick is back inside at the slot corner position because of the play of rookie Jourdan Lewis. Brown and Lewis are the Cowboys best options outside. That then allows Scandrick and Bryon Jones to make plays while roaming the field. I still wish they would bench Jeff Heath but in the meantime, this defense needs all hands on deck.

Do I think the Cowboys defense will turn in to the 2000 Ravens while Zeke is suspended? Has the defense benefited from an improved rushing attack? No I don’t think this defense will drastically improve from now until the rest of the season. This is a mediocre defense. They have benefited from an improved rushing attack but this defense will not be facing any great offenses. Being mediocre is all they need. If this defense can continue to get to the quarterback, and create turnovers, they will fine.

Marinelli..... Keep being special!

It was a time not so long ago when Jason Hatcher had a pro bowl season with 11 sacks. Hatcher was probably the last dominate pass rusher for the Dallas Cowboys. Since joining the team in 2013 Rob Marinelli has been the leader of the “JAG” (Just A Guy) committee, when it comes to pass rushers. He’s had some solid linemen, but none has been special. That probably will not change much this upcoming season.                 Drafting Taco Charlton was taking a position of need. Was he the best player available at his position? Only time will tell. Can he step in week one and be the pass rusher the Cowboys hope he can be? We will just have to wait in see. There are many questions surrounding Charlton, and he play was have to answer them. The consensus is that Charlton is a very talented but inconsistent player. He has shown flashes of being special at the coll...

We need you Dez!!!!!

With all the great and exciting new things going on with the Dallas Cowboys, its easy to forget about the great things they’ve had. The Cowboys have a great young nucleus but they also have some really good veteran pieces as well. Sean Lee made his first all-pro team last season and is considered one of the best linebackers in football. Jason Witten will retire as one of the best tight ends to ever play this game. Then that leads me to Dez Bryant, the “X-factor”. Since coming into the league in 2010 you have amazed Cowboys fans with your brilliant showcase of physical attributes.  Your body control, leaping ability, and overall physicality is second to none. The last two years have been tough on you health wise but this team will need you in order to make a super bowl run.             All great offenses usually have a good to great quarterback, a good to great running back, and ...

Calling on General Garrett

I have written a number of blog post about what we, as fans, expect from the players on this Cowboys team. Now let’s put some responsibility at the feet of Jason Garrett. In order for the Dallas Cowboys to make the jump to being a championship team they will need an A+ effort from their General. Jason Garrett is coming off an amazing season with the Dallas Cowboys  which lead to him receiving the coach of the year award. He was able to guide his team to a 13-3 record, a division title, and the best record in the NFC. They eventually lost to the Packers in the divisional round, but the Cowboys still had a good season. I still don’t think we have seen the best of Garrett’s coaching abilities. Since the three straight seasons going 8-8 from 2011-2013, Garrett has been an above average coach. It should be mentioned that in those three season the Cowboys playoff chances can down to the last game of the season. Some people blame Romo for those loses and some b...
