Five Keys to beating the 49ers!!!!

Cowboy Nation, it’s time to dust ourselves off and get ready for the reminder of the 2017 season. Yes, it was a rough 5-week start to the season, but it isn’t over and the Cowboys are still in great position to get the job done. The bye week has come and gone. At this point, I’m ready to put everything that went on the first 5 weeks, in the back of my mind and approach the reminder of the season with renewed faith.
The Dallas Cowboys take on the San Francisco 49ers. Many Cowboys fans have taken the confident approach and have turned their noses up at the 49ers. They think that this is a non-contest and the Cowboys should win this game going away, be careful. This 49ers team has lost 5 straight games by 3 points or less. If there is any team due (due theory) for a win it’s the 49ers. Salmon Thomas and Deforest Buckner are studs up front. This offensive line will have it’s hands full. Reuben Foster is making his season debut, and we will just have to see what he brings to their defense. The 49ers secondary doesn’t scare me but if their pass rush is able to get to Dak, it will be a long game for the Cowboys. Here are my keys for beating the 49ers!

Run the ball

The 49ers are ranked 18th against the run (112.8). There is no better team to get the running game going than the 49ers. With or Without Zeke the Cowboys are going to rely on the running game to protect this young defense. They have to find ways to make the run game effective. Dak has been playing lights out, so teams aren’t stacking the box like they were at the beginning of the season. The time is now! Zeke had 29 carries in the game against the Packers. He has had a week off and maybe suspended after this week. Let’s load him up with carries. This is also a good week to active Darren McFadden and start getting him into playing shape, just in case Zeke is lost for 6 games at some point in this season.

Pressure this 49ers Rookie QB

CJ Beathard is a rookie quarterback! He should have people in his face the entire game. Force Beathard to make play adjustments and protection changes at the line of scrimmage. Drop back defensive ends and linebackers at the last minute to put people in passing lanes. Do whatever is possible to confuse this young man, and make his life hell!

Take away the 49ers Run game

Like his father, Kyle Shanonhan wants to run the ball and has some creative ways to do it. A quarterback’s best friend is an effective run game. The Cowboys can’t afford to allow the 49ers to get the run game going. Charlos Hyde is a good running back but he can’t beat you by himself. If Hyde gets going it will make life easier for this young quarterback and that will be a problem for this Cowboys defense.
I would love to see the Cowboys try Taco Charlton inside at defensive tackle now that David Irving is back. I think that Tyrone Crawford is a great rotational defensive lineman. Crawford just isn’t holding up in run support. Charlton hasn’t shown me anything as an edge rusher, so maybe he can excel at stopping the run next to Collins. If there is any game to figure things out its one against an 0-6 team.

Use Taco Charlton

Taco Charlton is a rookie so we have to be patient with his development. With that said he was a first round pick. I have no idea why the Cowboys aren’t using him. He can’t be any worse than the other guys the Cowboys have put up front. Aside from Lawrence, Irving, and Collins the Cowboys don’t have any other options to count on from this defensive front. Seeing as though they run a base 4-3 scheme they should be looking for that fourth defensive lineman. Stephon Peae was a nice piece to the defensive front but he was by no means a dominate interior player. We’ve all seen what Tyrone Crawford is, and that isn’t much more that a rotational piece. Demontre Moore is a speed rusher and should be used more in passing situations and on third down. Why not give Taco a chance?
Benson Mayowa and Demontre Moore aren’t big enough to play inside at defensive tackle. Taco doesn’t have the ideal size to play inside but he does have good height and power was one of the things scouts praised about him coming out of school. I’m not sure what Taco can do inside that he hasn’t be able to do on the outside, but it’s worth a try. At this point, this defense needs whatever boost it can get. Let’s hope that boost is Taco!

Play 60 mins of football

The game of football is all about adjustments. How teams can adjust to what the other team is doing well. The last two games the Cowboys were able to get double-digit leads and lost both games. That means the Cowboy weren’t able to counter what the team did to counter what they were doing. That is a negative reflection on the coaching staff. With this young defense, struggling right now, emphasis have been placed on this coaching staff. Garrett has to carry out an effective gameplan, strategist with his coordinators and make in game adjustments according to the flow of the game. What worked in the first half of the game may not work in the second half because the opposing team won’t allow it.

This is a must win game for the Dallas Cowboys. I know it’s still early in the season but if they can’t beat an 0-6 team then they have no shot at making the playoffs. Also the Eagles are looking good this year and they Cowboys can’t afford to allow them to get too much a lead in the division.

Marinelli..... Keep being special!

It was a time not so long ago when Jason Hatcher had a pro bowl season with 11 sacks. Hatcher was probably the last dominate pass rusher for the Dallas Cowboys. Since joining the team in 2013 Rob Marinelli has been the leader of the “JAG” (Just A Guy) committee, when it comes to pass rushers. He’s had some solid linemen, but none has been special. That probably will not change much this upcoming season.                 Drafting Taco Charlton was taking a position of need. Was he the best player available at his position? Only time will tell. Can he step in week one and be the pass rusher the Cowboys hope he can be? We will just have to wait in see. There are many questions surrounding Charlton, and he play was have to answer them. The consensus is that Charlton is a very talented but inconsistent player. He has shown flashes of being special at the coll...

We need you Dez!!!!!

With all the great and exciting new things going on with the Dallas Cowboys, its easy to forget about the great things they’ve had. The Cowboys have a great young nucleus but they also have some really good veteran pieces as well. Sean Lee made his first all-pro team last season and is considered one of the best linebackers in football. Jason Witten will retire as one of the best tight ends to ever play this game. Then that leads me to Dez Bryant, the “X-factor”. Since coming into the league in 2010 you have amazed Cowboys fans with your brilliant showcase of physical attributes.  Your body control, leaping ability, and overall physicality is second to none. The last two years have been tough on you health wise but this team will need you in order to make a super bowl run.             All great offenses usually have a good to great quarterback, a good to great running back, and ...

Calling on General Garrett

I have written a number of blog post about what we, as fans, expect from the players on this Cowboys team. Now let’s put some responsibility at the feet of Jason Garrett. In order for the Dallas Cowboys to make the jump to being a championship team they will need an A+ effort from their General. Jason Garrett is coming off an amazing season with the Dallas Cowboys  which lead to him receiving the coach of the year award. He was able to guide his team to a 13-3 record, a division title, and the best record in the NFC. They eventually lost to the Packers in the divisional round, but the Cowboys still had a good season. I still don’t think we have seen the best of Garrett’s coaching abilities. Since the three straight seasons going 8-8 from 2011-2013, Garrett has been an above average coach. It should be mentioned that in those three season the Cowboys playoff chances can down to the last game of the season. Some people blame Romo for those loses and some b...
