Cool it with the Dak Hate!

Can we all stop with the system quarterback argument when it comes to Dak Prescott! Most of the people spewing that stuff are the same people saying that Dak will fall back to earth. Stop it! Dak Prescott had one really good year. His success within the offense is the main reason that the Cowboys won 13 games and the NFC East division.
Yeah it was one season, and yeah he has some major talent surrounding him. But, just two seasons ago Matt Cassel, Brandon Weedon, and Kellen Moore weren’t able to have any success with this same team. In 2015 Tony Romo won the first two games of the season and those JAGS (Just A Guy) were only able to win two more games. The same exact team that won 4 games, was able to win 13 games in 2016 thanks to Dak Prescott. I’m not going to tell anyone that Dak is the next Tom Brady, or Peyton Manning. But he could be the next Ben Roethlisberger or Russell Wilson. Before I crown him anything, I’m going to need to see a lot more from him.  I want to address the hater that seem to think that last season was a fluke and he is overrated.
If I need to see more of him in order to say he is the next great quarterback, how can anyone deem him overrated or a fluke. He had a good rookie season, some of you won’t even admit that. The running game was amazing, and he has a good group of playmakers. Dak was able to make it all work. He was able to stay poised in the pocket, protect the ball, and use his mobility to move the chains. Dak did what made Romo so great.
At the beginning of Romo’s career, he was very mobile and effective at keeping plays alive with is legs. In 2014 Romo had an MVP caliber season doing exactly what Dak did last season. If Dak can be a better leader than Romo he will have the ability to be a Ben Roethlisberger. Extending plays, protecting the ball, and moving the chains are what make offenses work. Dak doesn’t have to throw for 300 yds a game, he won’t have to complete 40 passes. Most of you are looking at the stat sheet and saying “he wasn’t great”, or “all he did was hand the ball off”. The Dallas Cowboys had a top 5 offense last year without him passing for 300 yds a game.

Russell Wilson has never averaged 300 yards passing a game for a full season. In his rookie season, he only averaged 194.9 yards a game. Wilson’s has only thrown over 10 interceptions in a season once. I like to compare Dak to Wilson because I think that’s his best comparison. Russell Wilson also has benefited going to the right situation. The Seahawks had a very solid team when he took over. What took them to the next level is the consistent play of Wilson and the leaps of that defense. Wilson has gotten better every year and now the Seahawks depend on him to be great. I see it the same way for Dak. For the next 2-3 seasons, the Cowboys won’t rely solely on him. He will just need to be consistently good, and efficient. Hopefully the Cowboys can win a superbowl or two. Within the next 5 seasons, we could be looking at an all-time great.

Marinelli..... Keep being special!

It was a time not so long ago when Jason Hatcher had a pro bowl season with 11 sacks. Hatcher was probably the last dominate pass rusher for the Dallas Cowboys. Since joining the team in 2013 Rob Marinelli has been the leader of the “JAG” (Just A Guy) committee, when it comes to pass rushers. He’s had some solid linemen, but none has been special. That probably will not change much this upcoming season.                 Drafting Taco Charlton was taking a position of need. Was he the best player available at his position? Only time will tell. Can he step in week one and be the pass rusher the Cowboys hope he can be? We will just have to wait in see. There are many questions surrounding Charlton, and he play was have to answer them. The consensus is that Charlton is a very talented but inconsistent player. He has shown flashes of being special at the coll...

We need you Dez!!!!!

With all the great and exciting new things going on with the Dallas Cowboys, its easy to forget about the great things they’ve had. The Cowboys have a great young nucleus but they also have some really good veteran pieces as well. Sean Lee made his first all-pro team last season and is considered one of the best linebackers in football. Jason Witten will retire as one of the best tight ends to ever play this game. Then that leads me to Dez Bryant, the “X-factor”. Since coming into the league in 2010 you have amazed Cowboys fans with your brilliant showcase of physical attributes.  Your body control, leaping ability, and overall physicality is second to none. The last two years have been tough on you health wise but this team will need you in order to make a super bowl run.             All great offenses usually have a good to great quarterback, a good to great running back, and ...

Calling on General Garrett

I have written a number of blog post about what we, as fans, expect from the players on this Cowboys team. Now let’s put some responsibility at the feet of Jason Garrett. In order for the Dallas Cowboys to make the jump to being a championship team they will need an A+ effort from their General. Jason Garrett is coming off an amazing season with the Dallas Cowboys  which lead to him receiving the coach of the year award. He was able to guide his team to a 13-3 record, a division title, and the best record in the NFC. They eventually lost to the Packers in the divisional round, but the Cowboys still had a good season. I still don’t think we have seen the best of Garrett’s coaching abilities. Since the three straight seasons going 8-8 from 2011-2013, Garrett has been an above average coach. It should be mentioned that in those three season the Cowboys playoff chances can down to the last game of the season. Some people blame Romo for those loses and some b...
