2018 Draft Series Ronnie Harrison and Rashaan Evans

The Dallas Cowboys inactivity in free agency is scaring their fans. I can't blame fans for being concerned. This team underperformed last season and failed to meet expectations. From a fans perspective, it appears they're content with bringing back the same team. This is making it extremely difficult to put a finger on what they may do in this upcoming draft. I've been preaching defense all off-season and would love for them to take that approach. The one thing I can say is that the Cowboys can’t afford to be safe in free agency and safe in the draft. I’m going to close out my 2018 draft series with two players that could really help the Cowboys, but their both scheme players. That means, alone they won’t stand out as difference makers, but with a good unit and the right pieces around them, you can get two great players.

Ronnie Harrison was a very productive player in college and has a skill set that the Cowboys need. If we’re keeping it real the Cowboys need all the defensive talent they can get. Harrison is a big safety measuring in at 6’3,  215 lbs and he plays big! He is more than willing to come up and lay a big hit on a ball carrier. Harrison was best when playing in the box. Considered that he played with a great playmaker like Minka Fitzpatrick at the other safety position he wasn’t asked to be a ball hawk. That is one of the question marks that I have with taking a player like Ronnie Harrison.
Take into account Kam Chancellor with the Seattle Seahawks. Kam is able to play in the box and robber across the middle because Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman hold down the deep areas of the field. When Earl Thomas missed time and Chancellor has to cover he was exposed. I see the same in Harrison. How much of his success was his own ability? How much was the result of playing with other great athletes on the Alabama Defense!
The Cowboys still have a need at safety and if you believe that Xavier Woods can be the coverage safety than the Cowboys can afford to draft a guy like Ronnie Harrison in the first round. If the Cowboys want to rely on Harrison to be the guy in the secondary that’s ball-hawking and roaming sideline to the sideline, we may end up seeing Roy Williams (the Safety) all over again. True Cowboys fan know exactly what I'm talking about! I like Harrison but if the other guys in this series are gone and he is the best available player then I would draft him and make it work. I would also consider another Alabama defensive player, Rashaan Evans.

Rashaan Evans

Rashaan Evans fills a need that the Cowboys desperately need filled, linebacker. Sean Lee has been the cornerstone for the Dallas Cowboys defense for some time now. He is often injured and the Cowboys can't afford to continue to count on Lee moving forward. Evans will bring an athletic element to the Cowboys defense. He is still raw but has the right measurables that will tempt a team to take him in the first round.

Evans fits that new hybrid linebacker mold. At 6’3, 235 lbs he has the frame to play well in space. In college, he wasn't asked to be the playmaker the Cowboys need but he stood in games. He has good instincts, good speed, and should fit in perfectly with Sean Lee and Jaylon Smith. Evans won't have that Alabama front four in front him, but he would give the Cowboys a solid player for years to come.

Cowboys lost to Rams.... Defense!!!

If you're reading this expecting me to bash the Cowboys defense stop reading now! The Cowboys have a struggling defense but that shouldn't be a surprise to anybody. The only way to build a championship team in today's NFL is to hit on some draft picks.  The Cowboys have invested a ton of money on the offensive side of the ball. They still have to pay Zach Martin this season. Also consider that they will have to pay Zeke and Dak at some point very soon. The only way to improve this defensive unit is via the draft. Look on the bright side, the Cowboys could be paying $200 million to defensive players and be sitting at 0-4 like the Giants.         Staying with the money aspect for just a second. Demarcus Lawrence (DLaw) and David Irving are up for contracts after this season. Lawrence was leading the league in sacks coming into week 4. Chances are they will only keep one of them. Byron Jones, a...

How to make a Return Sean Lee?

I was born in the 80s. That means that I lived through the greatest era of wrestling, the 90s-2000s. We don't have enough time in one blog to go over all the things that era of wrestling got right. One thing they did exceptionally well was wrestler returns. The Cowboys could steal a page out the WWF (now WWE) playbook as it pertains to Sean Lee's return. Daily build up, pyrotechnics, and a heel! Every great return needs a heel. Stings heel was Hollywood Hogan for goodness sake!         Who better a Heel than the Philadelphia Eagles? The defending super bowl champions (🤮🤮🤮). The team whose fans cheered when Michael Irvin laid motionless on his back (something I will never forget). They got the title but it feels like they cheated, like they got outside interference. It just feels like we need a good guy in this situation. Somebody to come from the back and give the fans hope that all good will prevail. The someone is Sean ...

Cowboys lost to the Rams...... Offense!!!

Like most of you I'm upset about the way in which the Cowboys lost to the Rams. Make no mistake the Cowboy's never really put themselves in a position to win that game. In fact I would argue that they did everything to lose the game. Ryan Switzer was reckless (some people would say aggressive) on the muffed punt. I say reckless because the Cowboys were up 17-6. If Switzer just fair catches that ball, at the very least the Cowboys keep the momentum. The best case for that situation is the Cowboys march down the field, like they did most of the first half, and score another touchdown to take a commanding lead. Switzer is a rookie and he wants, so bad, to make plays for his team. There isn't anything wrong with that. He has to understand that games aren't won and lost on one play. I don't want to pile on the rookie because I feel that the Cowboys are going to need the play making ability of Switzer. I do want to address this coaching staff.      ...
