2018 Draft Series Da'Ron Payne

The Cowboys need defense, defense and more defense! I feel like they should be taking a defensive player with their first three picks. The Dallas Cowboys have become a run first football team. Many people will say it's because Romo retired and Dak can't carry a team the way Romo did. I agree that Dak isn't Romo but he is plenty good enough to carry this Cowboys team. If we're being honest, much of Romo’s success came when the Cowboys were able to run the ball and control the clock.           If the Cowboys want to continue to have success running the ball and grinding down the clock they have to be able to stop other teams. They're going have to put a defense on the field that can hold opponents under 20 points a game. They've made strides in making the defense better. At the moment the Cowboys have a ton of young players that they're hoping can develop into pro bowl caliber players. I really think they should continue to add you...

2018 Draft Series Roquan Smith

If you’ve been following my 2018 draft series then you should start to notice a common theme, Defense! The only way for the Cowboys to improve and finally be serious contenders for a super bowl is to bolster this mediocre defense. No more band-aids, quick fixes, or one-year rentals! The Cowboys need to make an all-out commitment to getting better on the defensive side of the ball and they need to do so this off-season. I agree with Cowboys nation that somethings have to change on the offensive side of the ball. I disagree that the Cowboys should address that issue in the draft. Taking a late round (after 3rd round) wide receiver or speed running back isn’t addressing a need on offense. That is adding a potential playmaker (toy) to the offensive side of the ball. The Cowboys wouldn’t need to add anything is they changed their offensive philosophy and updated it to the 2010s. The Cowboys have the offensive talent to be a top 5 offense. Dak is a very good quarterback that is onl...

2018 Draft Series Vita Vea DT

I was talking with a buddy the other day and he asked me what I thought was the Cowboys biggest need. After seeing how the 2017 season play out it was hard not to mention offensive line or wide receiver. The Cowboys could use some depth at both those positions but that's all any player drafted this year would be, depth! I definitely think the Cowboys need more speed at the wide receiver position, but could that all be solved with a scat back? Tyron Smith missed a few games this year due to a bad back but does anyone believe that it’s time to give up on Tyrannosaurus? I could be persuaded either way in regards to the offensive line and wide receiver positions. My only rebuttal to making these positions a priority is will that player play this season and make an impact. My answer is, No! Any wide receiver that the Cowboys draft probably wouldn’t come in this year and be the man. Dez is still better than any rookie wide receiver coming out this draft. The Cowboys can’t afford to...

2018 Draft Series Derwin James

For most football fans the NFL combine is a waste of viewing time. To be honest, with the way we're able to digest sports there really isn't a reason to watch the NFL combine coverage on NFL Network or ESPN. What the combine is to some football fans, is a time to see athletes compete for themselves. The Combine gives us something you can't see on Saturday and Sunday, selfishness! College athletes from all across the nation have a chance to put on workout clothes and outwork the guy next to them. They have the opportunity to one-up the next man for the sole purpose of saying “I'm stronger than you, or I'm faster than you.” I don't know about you but I think it's amazing TV.          The Combine is also the last time you get the chance to see these athletes compete for the job of a lifetime. After the Combine it's individual workouts, hosted by the player, Taylor made for the player strengths and controlled by ...

Grey Storm Clouds on the Cowboys Season!!!!

Imagine a cloudy day with some gray storm clouds. You take your child out to the playground because it’s been cloudy all day. A few drops fall but it’s nothing to concern yourself with. Then after being at the playground for about 45 mins the sky opens and a down pour begins. That’s how it feel right now as a Cowboys fan. All season we looked up and saw the grey storm clouds, but we went outside anyways. We knew Zeke was getting suspended because the NFL always wins, there are only so many courts to appeal to. The slight drizzy started in the Falcons game when we were willing to chalk that up as a bad game. Then the sky opened up and all hell broke out in the Eagles game. The Cowboys are in the middle of a storm and they don’t have the coaching staff to rescue this team.             Why does it appear that everyone knew Zeke Ellio...

The Cream Always rises!!!

Today's game against the Eagles will be the Cowboys biggest game of the season. Most fans and experts have already concluded a lost for the Dallas Cowboys. This is a divisional game so you can throw the records out of the equation. The Eagles are dealing with most of the same injuries as the Cowboys. This game will come down to which coaching staff can motive his players to execute the best game plan. I don’t want to talk Cowboys vs Eagles in this blog. I want to discuss the possibility of the Cowboys putting together a dominate defensive unit. What? I know you’re think this guy is crazy but follow me.             Rob Marnielli is a good defensive mind. His greatest skill is getting the most out of the players that are available to him. Remember when George Selvie had 7 sacks on the season. What about when Jason Hatcher led the team with 11 sacks. Marinelli has the ability to put ...

Matching up with the Eagles... Defensively

If the Cowboys want any chance at beating the Eagles, that defense has to play better than is has all season. Adjustments have to be made and Marinelli is going to have to coach the best game of his life.  The biggest adjustment should be the usage of Jaylon Smith. If he is still hurt, or still recovering I'm ok with that. Whatever is going on with him, he isn't an effective replacement for Sean Lee. He takes bad angles against running backs and is terrible in coverage. If they're going to use Jaylon Smith let him rush the passer. Blitz his ass!  Philly is too good a team to allow Smith to make the mistakes he has been making all season. If he isn't deep enough in his coverage drops that can be six points. If he shoots the wrong gap in run support that can be six points. Philly is an explosive team and big gains turn into point for them fast.   ...
